چکیده

Abstract Recently, many studies have investigated additive manufacturing (AM) of hierarchical surfaces with high surface area/volume (SA/V) ratios, and their performance has been characterized for applications in next-generation functional devices. Despite recent advances, it remains challenging to design manufacture SA/V ratio structures desired functionalities. In this study, we established the complex correlations among ratio, structure geometry, functionality, manufacturability two-photon polymerization (TPP) process. Inspired by numerous natural structures, proposed a 3-level along mathematical modeling ratio. Geometric constraints were modeled create well-defined three-dimensional hierarchically structured accuracy. A process flowchart was developed achieve target geometric Surfaces varied ratios hierarchy levels designed printed. The wettability antireflection properties fabricated characterized. It observed that wetting could be easily tailored adjusting parameter settings levels. Furthermore, change naturally hydrophilic near-superhydrophobic. Geometrical light trapping effects enabled property significantly enhanced (> 80% less reflection) structures. Experimental results implied great potential various such as microfluidics, optics, energy, interfaces.

Mimicking surface plasmons with structured surfaces.

Metals such as silver support surface plasmons: electromagnetic surface excitations localized near the surface that originate from the free electrons of the metal. Surface modes are also observed on highly conducting surfaces perforated by holes. We establish a close connection between the two, showing that electromagnetic waves in both materials are governed by an effective permittivity of the...

Hierarchical modeling with parametric surfaces

We present a hierarchical triangular surface of arbitrary topology and its application to adaptive surface fitting. The surface is overall tangent plane continuous and is defined parametrically as a piecewise quintic polynomial. It can be adaptively refined while preserving the overall tangent plane continuity. This model enables designers to create a complex smooth surface composed of a small ...

Propagation of designer surface plasmons in structured conductor surfaces with parabolic gradient index.

In this work, we investigate the propagation of designer surface plasmons in planar perfect electric conductor structures that are subject to a parabolic graded-index distribution. A three-dimensional, fully vectorial finite-difference time-domain method was used to engineer a structure with a parabolic effective group index by modulating the dielectric constant of the structure's square holes....
